NEW MEMBER’S KIT 2021

At The American Carp Society we listen to our Member’s, because it is you that drives the direction of our Merchandise, Tackle and Bait products and annual Member’s kit. You told us that the Member’s Pin was great, but you’d rather see something more ‘usable’ in your kit that could be used in your personal fishing sessions…… Wish granted!

For our renewing legacy members and all new members, the Member’s Kit will now include a pack of our sticky sharp Size 6 ACS K9 Hooks and super-buoyant Pop-up Corn. In addition to these tackle items you’ll also receive your new sticker pack, the new ultra-soft ACS Branded Beanie in Maroon and a sample of our breakthrough Mandala Gold bait that won’t be available on the store to the public until January.

This is just our way of saying how much we value your input and your continued support through membership. Each year your new Membership renewal kit will contain new unreleased ACS products not yet available to the public. Thank you for your continued support!

CARPY READS

The Best Carp Flies - How To Tie & Fish Them

By Brandon Tourigny

A well-read fly angler is something all fish should fear. We are living in the golden age of fly fishing, and there are plenty of books out there to help anglers along in their journey. Early on in my pursuit of carp I searched out any piece of literature I could, to gobble up any bit of carpy information. There is a wonderful problem in that so far, I haven’t found a bad book about fly fishing for carp. However, the book “The Best Carp Flies: How to Tie & Fish Them” by Jay Zimmerman stood out as something special.

The beginning chapter of the book introduces the carp to readers as a species, and why they should be regarded as high value game fish. Zimmerman goes into great written and illustrated detail about the environments carp live in, and scenarios anglers can expect to find themselves in on the water. You’ll learn casting techniques, ways to approach feeding carp, and the basics of why carp flies are tied the way they are.

The rest of the book however offers one of the most in-depth fly tying instruction manuals found in fly fishing literature. There are 22 different carp patterns described within the pages, and each one is written about in extensive detail. Each fly is introduced with a brief history of its development, and the fishing scenarios it will work best in. Brilliant photography and step-by-step instructions will aid readers in tying beautiful carp flies of their own. A unique aspect of the book is that several of these patterns are not available to buy commercially. Those who learn to tie them gain something truly distinct.

Whether you tie flies yourself or not, understanding a flies construction will undoubtedly make you a better angler. It will help you understand what flies to fish when, and why. And if you do start tying your own carp flies along the way, you will discover a whole new part of our sport to fall in love with! Jay’s book can be found on Amazon.com or anywhere else books are sold.

THANK YOU FROM CARP SLAM

We want to thank everyone who donated to the Denver Carp Slam. Thank You so much for demonstrating your passion for the species we enjoy and digging deep at this very trying time in our lives. The Carp Slam is the Country’s leading ‘Carp on the Fly’ Tournament and your sacrifice has empowered it to educate others and improve the South Platte River habitat.

There aren't many opportunities for us as Carp Anglers to get more involved in something that directly impacts the future of the sport here in the USA, than by helping with the rehabilitation of a US Carp Fishery. Keep an eye out next year, as we’ll continue to partner with Denver Trout Unlimited to protect Colorado Carp. This is an example of those that are giving back to the sport that we all love so dearly and something to be proud of for the next generation of US Carp Anglers.

OUR FRONT PAGE GOT A FACELIFT

Each month we feature and recognize a special Angler on our homepage with a picture that captures and represents everything that The American Carp Society stands for. This incredible shot of Fly Angler, Jason Redmond (Who will be featured in the upcoming American Carper Volume 4 - December Release) was captured by his wife Laura, and so for the month of October we just had to share this photo of Jason with his breaching carp. Great lenswork Laura…. @1fishwhisperer
